A native of Charlotte, NC, Shawn LeMond earned an Electronic Engineering equivalent through the US Navy Advanced Electronic Program. He went on to serve 6 years with distinction receiving the US Navy Medal of Commendation and other commendations from tours in the Middle East, Africa and Caribbean.
After completing his military service, he worked in the industrial controls industry and served 12 years in elected office ranging from mayor of the City of Matthews to North Carolina House of Representatives where he represented southeastern Charlotte.
After leaving office, Mr. LeMond held positions with Securities Division of the NC Secretary of State’s Office and the NC Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, during which time he also earned a degree in Economics from North Carolina State University (Cum Laude). In 2003, Mr. LeMond founded ECG Inc., a glass recycling company with a proprietary process for reusing recycled glass in polymers and cements. In 2005, ECG was one of four companies singled out by North Carolina Business Magazine for “Small Business of the Year” recognition.
In 2010, Mr. LeMond divested his interest in ECG and began Sapien Research & Consulting, providing support to solar development and corporate involvement in renewable energy. His clients within the industry included utilities, major EPC firms, solar developers, financial developers and European equipment manufacturers wishing to enter the U.S. market. As of June 2018, Mr. LeMond has been directly involved in the development of 485 MW of utility scale solar.
